Founded in 2004 and located at the mouth of Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, Utah (hmmm powder!) Surface skis is the fastest growing brand in freeskiing. Leading the charge is founder Mike Schneider, a true skier who shreds 100+ days a year and whose hands on approach from marketing to product testing with athletes is all based on having fun in the mountains – something we can all relate to.
I first noticed these boards during a month of ski bumming in Utah, their unique three stage rocker and artistic topsheets are hard to miss. Skiershop is stoked to be one of the few online dealers of Surface, and we hope you will use this dealer review to learn more about Surface skis.
The One Life brings Surface’s own 3 Stage Rocker to the party. Tested by lapping powder choked forests, pow slashes, tree taps, and straighlines, the One Life makes traditional fat skis look archaic. The ski features a Maple-Poplar Wood Core, ABS Sidewall Construction, Extra Thick Edge Material, and Three Stage Rocker Technology.
Live Life: 181cm – 146/110/130, 191cm – 156/120/135
The Live Life features a Maple-Poplar Wood Core, Early Rise in the Tip and Tail, ABS Sidewall Construction, Extra Thick Edge Material, and comes AAA (Alaska, Argentina, Antarctica) approved by ski photographer Adam Clark.
Watch Life: 132/100/122 (172cm, 182cm)
The Watch Life is Surface’s 2010 one ski quiver. Dependable and trustworthy just like the old rig you keep trucking to the mountain. This ski can slay pow, carve you back to the lifts, and hit the park. It features a Maple-Poplar Wood Core, ABS Sidewall Construction, and Extra Thick Edge Material.
Live Free: 181cm – 146/110/130, 191cm – 156/120/135
The Live Free is Surface’s light weight fat ski and comes with Early Rise in the Tip and Tail, Maple-Poplar Wood Core, ABS Sidewall Construction, and Extra Thick Edge Material. Dawn patrols for pow here we come!
No Time: 162cm – 108/76/99, 172cm – 108/76/100, 182cm – 112/82/105
A park ski with Early Rise in the Tip and Tail for those buttery tricks. It features a Maple-Poplar Wood Core, ABS Sidewall Construction, and Extra Thick Edges for rails. The No Time is Surface’s budget friendly park ski. Surface also makes the Next Time – a similar constructed park ski available in 145cm (101/76/99), and 155cm (101/76/99).
My Time – Women’s Park Ski: 162cm – 108/76/99, 172cm – 108/76/100
Girls are charging park and pipe just as hard as the boys, so Surface gave them their own park ski. Built with the same construction as other models this ski features a smooth flex, Early Rise in the Tip and Tail, Maple-Poplar Wood Core, ABS Sidewall Construction, and Extra Thick Edge Material.
In addition to their already unique lineup of skis, this season Surface has partnered with Skullcandy to produce and co-brand 3 sets of skis, poles, and matching Skullcandy Icon 2 headphones. Skiershop will have these available, but act fast because they won’t last long – Take a look at the teaser:
