2012 Marker Baron Touring Binding

Click on above image to view full picture

The Baron is back for 2012 season. It features the same revolutionary toe and heel design as the Duke, but it's intended for lighter weight big mountain skiers. It has a DIN range of 4-12, and it's lighter construction shaves off about 1/3 of a pound. If you're looking to get into touring, but still want a binding that delivers alpine performance the Baron is an excellent option. It essentially turns your skis into two different pairs, a solid alpine ski, and an amazing touring setup.

-DIN Range: 4 - 13

-Stand height w/o ski: 34mm

-Triple Pivot Elite Toe System & Inner Pivot Heel

-Available with 90 mm and 110 mm brakes

-2,450 gr (sm.) / 2,480 gr (lg.)

Scott P4 w/ marker barons Review by erikg

I got a pair of P4s last year and mounted them up with a pair of barons for touring around in the east coast. I was very pleased with how durable they are. I beat the crap out of my equipment and these are on the indestructible side of things. I am also psyched on the price vs a fritschi setup. (Posted on 1/19/12)

The Baron is the little brother to the Marker Duke, so if you don't need quite such a beefy DIN setting (lighter guys, ladies, etc), then this is the binding for you! It's friendly to use and performs well. One criticism that I've heard is that you have to take your boot out of the binding in order to transition from Tour to Ski mode (while some other types of touring bindings allow you to do this without taking your skis off). This is true, however most of us take our skis off anyway in order to put on or remove skins, so it's not an issue. One thing to note: if you're the guy who always thrashes his equipment, go with the Duke - it's got more metal and will hold up longer to your thrashing. Overall, the Marker Baron is great binding if you're a lighter skier who likes to tour, and it performs well on the way up AND the way down. (Posted on 1/19/12)
